Hey hey hey people see come to see nothing here :)

Funny as I was looking at hosting a 10 player UT2004 server again last night. Would cost about £8/month so might, just might start one up again, just as a trial for a laugh.

Haven't played it for a few months, I've been playing COD & BC2 :|

I dunno if enough people are playing UT2004 to warrant you getting another server but post in this thread if you do and I will get the notification

AHOY!

Yeah, I didn't play through most of 2010 either, but I have been playing on and off since November or so...

Sadly, this game is on its death bed and it breaks my heart, basically there's only a handful of servers left to play on that have people in them. I almost always play on two Rankin-only DM servers now (the ones with colored names in the server browser), as those most often have a decent amount of skilled people on them. There are also 2 TAM servers which I do not enter. As for proper DM servers with different map voting, Bermuda still sees some activity during the afternoons or early evenings but much less than before, there's rarely more than 5-6 people on. Other than that, the only decent server I remember of is Killing Fields but that one is completely dead 95% of the time :(

Summary: it's becoming very very hard to find a non-Rankin-only server to play on. Most chance for that is in late afternoon/early evening. Rankin-only servers still offer a lot of activity and action, but it's only one map and gets boring soon...

If you want to play this game online I suggest you make the most of what limited time it has left. I do know that I plan to keep playing 2k4 to its death.

Hiya mate, been a while!

Yeah it is a shame to see this great game dying. I have many fond memories from when it was in its prime of popularity. I still don't think it has ever been bettered and I doubt it ever will be, I think it is from another era. I wish I knew a way to revive interest in it from old players. There must be plenty like us who would play more, if there were more players to play with. Just on a normal server with normal rules and the most popular default maps, none of those weird custom maps or 'zounds' shit.

I did try UT3 some time last year. Bought it actually. In another town, then got home and found no CD key in the case...though after trying it in single player for a few hours I just put it away. The only joy I got from that game was riding the Manta, it's much more agile than in 2k4, but then again, I play onslaught 0.1% of the time :/ Movement is just too slow and constricted compared to 2k4.

So yeah, back a few years ago I was hoping I would love UT3, but now, I just want a 2004 with people, on a server where you can actually vote maps and not play the same shit over and over. A ~40 frag server would be nice, with default maps yes, and a handful of decent mod maps, only Campgrounds, Blockfort and Lea come to mind really...

The UT3 cd-key should be on the front of the instruction booklet, at the bottom.

You haven't missed much, you're right, UT3 may be pretty (although too dark I think) but the gameplay is very lacking, dumbed down for consoles and gamepads.

I had a game of UT2004 yesterday after a long break and I was so rusty :D But I am going to take your advice and continue to play this great game while we still can.

You always kinda suck when you get back to it after a few months of non-playing, but in my experience it takes only 2-3 days to "remember".

Didn't even get an instruction thingy with my UT3, it was in a simple DVD case, I should have got the CD-key on a piece of paper inside but I didn't. Doesn't matter, I don't care for the game anyway. Maybe if they make an "UT2004 movement" mutator...:D

I've spent a few hours playing on the Bermuda Team server over the weekend, the most players I encountered was 9, just now, not bad and I recognise a lot of old names :D

For some reason I have a bad ping though, around 120 - it is still playable though but could be better, it should be about a 1/3 of that! Still the main thing is taking part, I don't care if I am competitive or not. I did have a win on Crash earlier though, just like old times :D

Hah, it's been so long since I played some old default maps. On Bermuda it's always Argibi or Sacrifice, meh. When I get Deck I get all hyperhappy inside, since now when playing on the rankin servers mostly, I really see that map rarely. Some 1on1 maps like idoma or crash, or roughinery especially, I haven't played in months if not years :(

Dunno about the ping, bermuda was always a bit higher and more laggy than others, but only slightly.

Off topic, I'm coming to the UK in a month for 9 days, gonna do London, Cambridge, Duxford airshow, Snowdonia and possibly Canterbury/Dover/Kent. Meeting a bunchload of internet friends in London and at the Airshow. Should be sweet.
